Once it was part of the trading route for salt, spice, silk, carpets,dyestuffs and narcotics from Yarkand, Kashgar, China and other parts of
Central Asia, connecting Indian subcontinent to the famous silk route.There are still double hump camels (Bactrians) in Nubra Valley, which were in the past used as the carrier.

Best possible accommodation in Nubra valley, The Silk route cottages are located at beautiful serene village of Sumur in Nubra Valley. To begin with we have 12 huts and 5 swiss cottage tents in the year of inception, amidst beautiful apricot and apple orchid located in Nubra Valley. Every individual wooden hut and swiss cottage tent has attached bath, modern toilets ( Running hot and cold water) with one dressing cum luggage room.
A Concrete spacious dining hall serves quality indian,chinese, Continental and Ladakhi cuisines. Most of the vegetables and fruits used, come from our own garden and are purely organic.
It is a "kind of its own" first time in Ladakh. It was conceived due to lack and high demand of comfortable stay for the elite tourist visiting Nubra. We plan to increase 10 more huts by next year to accommodate larger groups.
The cottages, due to use of bamboos, wood and other natural elements gives more feeling of openness to the nature yet with the modern interiors and setup for a comfortable stay after an exhausting safari or a trek.The silk route cottages are at a walking distance from Samstanling Monsatery.
